Monday mornings are rough for almost everyone, but they are particularly difficult for ministers who work all day on Sunday...the day that most everyone else gets to take off. So to help you understand the mind of a minister on Monday morning, I thought I would open up and share with you a random tasting of what has already run through my mind this morning, so that you can laugh a little, perhaps see your minister in a different light, and pray for the pastors and leaders God has placed over us. Here you go...
"My back is killing me. We need a new bed."
"Lord please let me go back to sleep. It is 2:30 AM. Lord? Are you even awake?"
"I do not want to pack a bag and leave my family again."
"I cannot wait to preach to 13,000 college students this week!"
"I have not saved up nearly enough money for my kids to go to college."
"I am going to miss homeschooling the boys all week. I need to pray for Charie."
"I cannot believe my son was born 9 years ago today. I am so blessed."
"I think my car is due for an oil change and I am about to drive 400 miles."
"Where is my Bible, the one I preach out of?"
"Has anyone seen my shoes? The ones I work out in?"
"I hope my dad has a better week this week, and no heart-attacks."
"I feel older today. What am I going to eat for breakfast? Do I have any cash in my wallet for the trip to Virginia?"
"I have alot to do and I need to leave by 9:30. I will never get it all done."
"I want to cry just thinking about being gone from home for 3 days, but I am thankful that I've had the last 5 days off. I whine too much."
Welcome to my mind on a Monday. When you think that you are the only person that struggles with forgetfulness, discouragement, depression, or distraction, just remember that us ministers are people too, just like you, with the very same crazy thoughts. And like you, without the grace of God, we would be an utter mess.
What crazy thoughts plague your mind on a Monday? How do you deal with them?

Praying for you as you speak at LU. I have a lot of former students there this year and they are excited about hearing you speak.

Thank you for sharing and being real with those around you. That means so much. Normally Mondays are back to work but being that it’s Labor day and I have off I am thinking more around the lines of getting everything done in one day—dishes, laundry, cleaning the bathroom, straighten up the bedroom, make lasagna for dinner, finishing up my gifts that I am crafting for my husband by Wednesday for his birthday. Today I am especially tired and have a sinus head ache and would love to stay in bed all day on my day off. But I fought that and got out of bed and ate breakfast… and now to take on the day (after rambling to you about my “to do” list.) Thank you for sharing once again! I do tend to forget about how you and other pastors do not get off on Sunday, in fact they are pretty much your biggest day of the week! Hang in there and thank you for coming to Liberty! You have impacted my life, as well as thousands of others at LU
We love you and love hearing God speak through you!

I go through similar Holy Hangover moments on Mondays, minus the travel. Mostly, I start thinking ahead to the next Sunday, but that is coupled with thoughts of what went wrong on Sunday, what is going on in my family’s lives this week, etc.

Hey, I work weekends, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries….My brother does to. I know there are lots of people who work (work is a four letter word by-the-way : ) other than 9-5, MON-FRI. We attend church and bible study when we can. We feel guilty because we miss alot of those “special” times with our spouse or kids. Our spouse picks up alot of the slack and again we feel guilty. We stay home on our days off and do laundry or mow the lawn. And, we our home by ourselves alot on our days off because everyone else is at work or school. Its life. Sometimes life sucks. BUT, God is good, all the time.
