Journals of a Madman

This autobiography covers the first 25 years of Clayton’s life, complete with pictures taken from the Grand Canyon, India, Africa, Russia, and dating back to his childhood on the farm. It consists of the 30 strangest things that have ever happened to him: being chased by the KGB in Moscow, being shot at in the Himalayas, seeing God raise a baby from the dead in India, giving Garth Brook’s autograph to a crazed fan, being made the King of a small Himalayan village, and nearly dying of malaria in Kenya. A fun and entertaining book, you can find a chapter full of Clayton’s random “Top 10 Lists” as well as true stories, like his experiences picking up hitchhikers.

The Beauty and the Mystery

This book written by Clayton and his wife Charie is filled with personal reflections on what it means to follow Jesus through the struggles of life as well as the victories. Some of the more difficult topics of the Christian life that are often omitted are brought to the light here; selfishness, humility, arrogance, un- forgiveness, bitterness, materialism, brokenness, holiness, and faithfulness. They share personal stories of loss, conflict, encouragement, and disappointment. Over 170 pages, it contains 50 chapters that will challenge and teach the reader to press deeper into the person and character of Jesus Christ.

Love, Dating & Other Insanities: Relationships Without Regret

This book is practical, Biblical, and readable. Written by Clayton and Steven Furtick, it candidly addresses our culture’s obsession with sex and outer beauty and attacks commonly held views regarding relationships and dating. Several chapters are dedicated to the “Red Flags” one should always run away from. Much of the book addresses the “Sex Connection” and clearly points out what is wrong with the way Americans view sex and how we pay a heavy emotional and physical price for lust. Issues such as divorce, pornography, making out, and guilt from past mistakes are also tackled with humor and clarity. It also deals with finding the right mate, safeguarding a new marriage, and remaining pure in high school and college. A great book for a middle schooler who is curious, a high schooler facing constant temptation, a college student dealing with regret, a young adult frustrated with the dating scene, or a married couple hoping to honor God with their marriage.

When most records claim to be “live” they are actually recorded mostly in a studio with a few live elements, like crowd noise. This record is actually live. Really. No studio work, no overdubs, no fancy tricks. And it honestly sounds as good as any “live ” recording you will ever hear. The legendary sound man and engineer Matt Grunden is behind the controls as 14 songs are captured in their natural element, with the crowd singing along, hands raised, hearts engaged in worship. The band consists of members of several Christian rock bands, like My Friend Stephanie, Holland, and Six & Twenty. Recorded at Crossroads Camps in NC and KY.

This was a worship record before worship records took over the world. A full studio album recorded by John Briglevich (The Black Crowes, Third Day) boasts the unbelievable drumming of Tim “Yogi” Watts (Demon Hunter, The Lonely Hearts) and a guest vocal appearance by Mac Powell of Third Day. Old classic hymns like “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Because He Lives” are done in traditional, stripped down four part harmonies while new classic worship anthems like “Open The Eyes of My Heart” and “Let The River Flow” are reminiscent of modern artists Delirious and Chris Tomlin. And there is a special surprise for fans of U2 on the album!

This is a straight-ahead rock and roll record. Catchy hooks, unforgettable choruses, and plenty of guitar will remind you of Train, Vertical Horizon, or Third Day. With over 14 songs and plenty of hidden tracks from the archives, the thing that makes this record is the song made famous by JohnBoy and Billy, The Rassling Song! Heard for years on their syndicated radio show, this song pays homage to the sport in its earlier, more innocent, family-friendly days. Rasslers like Wahoo McDaniels, Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, and Jay Youngblood are mentioned, but the glory is reserved for the Nature Boy Ric Flair!

Adam’s Housecat- Patience and Affliction - $15

Our very first record after the breakup of Monogamous Fish, it was engineered by Ricky Rodrguez (7 Miles, Exit Eden). This worship record contains some gems; old hymns like “It Is Well With My Soul” done completely ASCAP along with new choruses like “God’s Gonna Rock This Place” and “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever” done with a full-on rock and roll attitude. Considering that this record was completed in 1997 before every youth group had it’s own band and every Christian and country artist had done a worship record, it was most certainly ahead of it’s time.

Monogamous Fish - $30

Believe it or not, this band started out as a joke. Clayton was inspired with the name from a video he watched in a scuba diving class and decided to start a rumor about this great new band named Monogamous Fish. It caught on, a buzz was created, and a few of his friends got together and recorded an album. Laugh if you want to, but the band did 2 pretty big tours of the East coast, sold over 8,000 records, raised over $2,000 for a local crisis pregnancy center, and saw over 1500 teenagers saved at their concerts in just under 2 years of existence. There are only 11 CDs remaining of their only release. No kidding, this is a great album, especially if you like John Cougar, V.O.L. early Jars of Clay, or Toad The Wet Sprocket.
